I Chose Adoption

So, you're feeling like you can't raise your baby.  Maybe you feel that the time just isn't right, or perhaps you feel that you don't have enough money or help.  Maybe you have been raped or are involved in an abusive relationship.

No matter what you feel right now, take a look at what choosing adoption means. Below you will find information from three adoption agencies.

The PHC is not an adoption agency, however we can refer women to these agencies.

Take a Look at What Bethany Christian Services Says:

The good news about your situation is that there are so many families all over the country that would love to have a baby of their own, but can’t due to infertility. They are waiting for a person like you - a person that wants to give a baby life, and share that baby with them.

You are doing the right thing by researching all of your options. If you feel that you can’t parent, no matter what the reason, adoption may be the right choice for you!

We are dedicated to working with Adoptive parents to ensure that the child transitions quickly and easily into an adoptive home. Our goal is to help adoptive parents reach their dreams of having a family through adoption.

What services does Catholic Charities offer?

Catholic Charities offers supportive services to individuals and families going through the adoption process. These services include:

  • Family and individual counseling
  • Education, including parenting, adoption issues, nutrition
  • Information and referral to community resources
  • Post Adoption services based on agency requirements and individual country regulations
  • Compassionate workers and a support group compiled of other families that have chosen to adopt their children internationally.

Our services are confidential!

The Adoption Option

Catholic Charities Adoption Services promote Open Adoption. It is our philosophy that full openness is ideal between and among birth parents and prospective adoptive parents.

What is Open Adoption?

In an Open Adoption, the birth parent is able to choose the adoptive parents from a selection of profiles. The profiles give the birth parent a glimpse into the adoptive couple's lives in order to see what type of family will potentially raise their child. The birth parent is then able to meet the adoptive couple and create a plan for openness. This plan could include how often the adoptive couple will send pictures, cards and letters regarding their child, visitation possibilities between birth parent(s) and the child, phone calls etc.

The goal of Open Adoption is to place the child in a loving, nurturing adoptive home and allow the child to grow up with knowledge of and connection to their birth parent(s). Adoption is always a birth parents CHOICE it is never an obligation or requirement.

Lutheran Social Services Answers Common

Questions on Adoption:

Can I seek help from an agency even if I am uncertain of my parenting plan?
Yes.  A counselor will be able to talk with you and help provide options.  You are in no way obligated to make an adoption plan - the choice is always yours.

Is there a cost for pregnancy services?
No.  All services and counseling for expectant parents are provided free of charge.

Does the birth father have to be involved in the process?
Lutheran Social Services encourages the involvement of both expectant parents in the process.  However, regardless of your relationship with the birth father there are details/steps that the birth father will need to take to ensure a secure placement for your baby.  LSS will assist in working with the birth father and ensure that all the legal procedures are in place to ensure security for your baby.

If the birth father does not wish to be involved, the birth father's legal rights can be terminated in a court of law through the use of a disclaimer and consent form and/or failure to appear in court on the scheduled day for termination of parental rights.

I am under the age of 18; do I need permission from my parents?
You will not need the permission of your parents/guardian to place your child for adoption.  Your decision to place is confidential and will be respected as such throughout your adoption process.

What if I have a change of heart after I have terminated my parental rights?
Once a Judge signs an Order terminating parental rights of both birth parents the decision is a final decision.  LSS will counsel with you so that you make the most informed parenting decision for you and your baby.
